Young drivers take part in Vasse vehicle sessions

Franz Jooste of Vasse Automotive takes young locals on a tour under the hood of a typical 'first car', explaining the importance of maintenance.
Young locals have been given some essential skills and knowledge to help them on the road, thanks to a partnership between Vasse Estate and local business, Vasse Automotive.
Last week, representatives joined with local students to take part in an engaging car maintenance workshop, titled “Get a Grip: Maintenance for Your First Car.”
Led by Franz and Natasha Jooste of Vasse Automotive, the workshop was designed to teach young drivers practical skills to help them stay safe on the roads.
Participants received guidance on checking oil and fluid levels, changing a tyre, and responding effectively to common roadside issues.
The workshop highlighted the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly for young drivers using older cars, which often require more attention.
“We believe it’s essential for young drivers to have a basic understanding of their vehicle’s needs and to feel confident in addressing common issues,” Natasha Jooste explained.
Participants were able to gain hands-on experience, practising how to change a tyre and learning crucial safety steps to take in the event of a breakdown.
The session was well-received by attendees, with many commenting on the value of learning these skills in a supportive environment.
Michelle Baker, Community Development Officer at Vasse Estate said the company planned to continue offering workshops to benefit the local community.
“We’re excited to continue providing opportunities that educate and empower our youth,” Michelle said.

“This workshop helps ensure young drivers are equipped to handle car maintenance, which is key to keeping them safe and reducing stress on the road.”
A second session has been scheduled for January 31, 2025, giving more young drivers the chance to build their confidence and knowledge.
