The WA State Government has announced Cowaramup will benefit from the first round of funding under its Streets Alive scheme.

A total of $299,700 in grants were awarded across the State.

Sixty-one successful applicants from the Kimberly to the Great Southern will receive up to $5,000 in seed funding.

The subsidy aims to support making local precincts more ‘people-friendly’ by reducing the speed of vehicles driving in their suburbs or regional towns.

The initial round of Streets Alive grant recipients included various entities such as local governments, community groups, P&Cs, Community Resource Centres, and Town Teams.

The grant aims to assist these organisations in conducting research to transform local attitudes and behaviours regarding speed, ultimately improving the safety of town centres.

Successful recipients across Warren-Blackwood included the Cowaramup Town Team, which will undertake the Cowaramup Wheelie Bin Gala for street calming.

“I encourage community groups and organisations committed to enhancing local safety at the grassroots level to apply for the upcoming funding round in August,” Ms Kelsbie said.

The upcoming round of TTM’s Streets Alive grants, which will provide funding for street transformations up to $100,000 each, will open in August 2024.
