More than 100 people gathered at the Amelia Park Tavern in Vasse for the local launch of Libby Mettam’s campaign to win the seat of Vasse for the Liberal Party at the upcoming State Election.

Several other candidates for the Legislative Council were also in attendance, including Michelle Boylan, Xavier Garbin and Gabi Ghasseb as well as Heather Reid who is standing for the Bunbury seat.

Vasse Campaign Manager Barry House said Ms Mettam spoke “eloquently and forcefully” about her plans for the State in Health, Transport, Law and Order, Education.

The campaign launch was held at Amelia Park Lodge in Vasse, with more than 100 people in attendance.

“Her work ethic, energy and commitment are an inspiration,” Mr House said.

Ms Mettam used the event as an opportunity to outline committments to the region including the upgrade of the Busselton Margaret River Regional Airport, with the WA Liberals pledging $25 million to support a business case for expansion into national and international flights.

Ms Mettam used the launch as a chance to chat with constituents and outline her commitments to the region.

“This investment would provide considerable benefit to the regional economy supporting small businesses and job opportunities,” she said. “The terminal is now unable to service two aircrafts simultaneously with considerable effects to functionality and amenity for airport users.

“The new terminal would enable the expansion of national and potentially international flight routes, expanding the value of tourism and the event sectors. The expansion would also stimulate aviation-related industries, including engineering, maintenance and the FIFO section.”

Ms Mettam said it was “such a privilege” to serve the people of Vasse and she would continue to fight for the region.
