VASSE Cricket Club has recruited two talented overseas batsmen to bolster their chances in the BMRCA A-Grade competition this season.
They are Ross Kettlewell, an opening batsman from the Bradford League in Yorkshire, and Mahesh Uragala, a Sri Lankan batsman who has relocated from Dubai.
“Ross has played for Pudsey Congs Cricket Club in Leeds since he was eight years old, and looks to be the perfect stable influence for our club who will also assist with coaching,” said Vasse club president David Abel.
“One of last year’s imports, Jack Allen, will also be returning to play for us again.”
Vasse have also recruited Cowaramup players Bill Cawley and Jarrid Durham to strengthen their lower grades, while Matthew Penfold is returning to Cowaramup. Scott Young will again captain the Vasse A-Grade side, while Dennis Amour (B-Grade) and Nathan Whitfield (C-Grade) will lead the lower grades. Nathan Pell will coach the Vasse Under-16s team.
Meanwhile, Yallingup-Oddbods have named Nayton Colombera to captain their A-Grade side. Tom Payne and Darren Cameron will again skipper B-Grade and C-Grade, while Simon Godridge will head the YOBS Academy side.
For the first time Yallingup-Oddbods have named a Masters team, playing under the name of Yallingup Old Bods, to be co-captained by Alex Logan and Jacob Beamish.
YOBS will look to allrounder Christo Le Roux and Brendan Millar to get among the runs this season, said Matty Braid, who has been elected YOBS President for the 10 th year running.
“We haven’t heard of any retirements, so hopefully Neil Langenhoven will be playing with us once again,” said Braid.
Across town at St Marys, Zoraiz Saeed has been named the A-Grade captain. Veterans Marc Ford and Peter Grygorcewicz will be putting the pads on again, said St Marys president Ben Mattock.
“Jono Lloyd has also been playing in England this year and arrives back on the eve of the new season.”
Saints’ A-Grade side this season will likely feature talented teenagers such as Will Snaddon, Spencer Drummond, Bailey Ford, Sean Zahra and Marley McLeod, said Mattock.
“Our junior numbers are very strong and have grown by an extra team, with Kye Barrow named to coach the Under-16s side.”
A number of St Marys veterans have also been named to play in Masters WA senior teams this season.
Dennis Kelly will play in the WA Veterans Country Over-70s, Graeme Sly and John Ryan in the Over-60s, and Peter Grygorcewicz and Karl Clively in the WA Over-50s.
