TV crew lands in Margaret River for travel show
Last Monday, the Main Street of Margaret River took centre stage as the crew from Nine Network’s long running travel show, Getaway, joined local tour operator Kellie Tannock to explore the region’s food, people, and stories through her Walk Talk Taste Tours.
“I’m grateful for this immersive opportunity to showcase not only my business but also the dozens of producers, businesses, and venues I collaborate with,” Kellie said.
“I feel as though I had the chance to be an ambassador for the region and the privilege of sharing our incredible produce and unique stories.”
Filming followed Kellie’s Brunch to Lunch tour route, stopping by local favourites, including Hairy Marron Cafe, Old Settlement, Vasse Virgin, Mai Tardi, Charcuterie Margaret River, and Teddis Big Spoon.
Despite the filming challenges in 40-degree heat, the day was filled with laughter and that good old down-to-earth Margaret River vibe.
“We faced some challenges shooting the ice cream scenes outside at Mai Tardi,” Kellie laughed.
“We were all melting, along with the ice cream, but we got through it and had a good old giggle. It was just a truly authentic experience.”

For Getaway host Lincoln Lewis, returning to the region feels like coming home.
“It doesn’t matter what you’re doing while you’re here – it’s like your soul’s taking a breath,” he said.
“It feels like home. I keep trying to find reasons to come back!”
His enthusiasm for the region deepened during filming.
“When we did the Bushtucker Tours canoe paddle at Margaret River, eating along the banks with Melaleuca and tea tree leaves floating all around and learning about the history – you really felt that sense of connection and Place,” Lincoln explained.
“You don’t want to head off somewhere and feel like just another tourist,” he continued.
“Many places rely on their tourism reputation and lose that personal touch. But in Margaret River, every experience shows you exactly why this spot is so special.”
The filming highlighted this authenticity, with local business owners enthusiastically sharing their stories.
“Everyone was really excited about the opportunity,” Kellie noted.
“Even though many of our producers and vendors are more comfortable in the background doing what they do best, they quickly warmed up to the crew.
“They had a fantastic time sharing their passion.”

The Getaway team’s response to the region didn’t surprise Kellie.
“At every touchpoint, I see the absolute wonder people have about Margaret River,” she said.
“The crew were genuinely excited to experience not just my tour but also the Cape to Cape Walk and mountain biking – all the things this region is renowned for.”
Kellie said interest in the region continued to grow, especially post-COVID.
“There’s always been a strong awareness of Margaret River, but it’s going to another level.
“With direct flights making it more accessible, you can get here from Melbourne in just a few hours. People are beginning to realise that opportunity more than ever.”
For Lincoln, showcasing the region feels like sharing a precious secret.
“Everyone knows about Margaret River, but being here is a completely different experience,” he said.
“For those watching from abroad or nationally, this captures everything Australia has to offer -the real Australia. I hear many people say, ‘Oh, I want to go there one day.’
“Hopefully, this will inspire them to book that trip!”
Looking ahead, Kellie’s Walk Talk Taste Tours continue attracting visitors and locals.
“I’m feeling much more optimistic this year about running regular tours,” she said.
“We’re working on a booking system so people can see when tours are running. I encourage everyone to get in touch if they want to experience it for themselves or help promote their business. We’d love to support them in any way we can.
“It’s fantastic to have Getaway share our region’s story with the world,” Kellie said.
“What we naturally excel at is making people feel welcome and ensuring they have a warm, intimate experience which is something you can’t script for television.”
