Top athlete to be crowned

Twelve of the region's best and brightest young sports stars have been shortlisted for the upcoming usselton Freight Rising Sports Star of the Year award. Pictures supplied.

Next week, twelve of the region’s best and brightest young sports stars will gather with friends, family and supporters for the Busselton Freight Rising Sports Star of the Year awards gala.

Over the 2023/24 year, a dozen of Busselton’s local emerging talents were nominated for the award, winning a monthly prize for their exceptional performances in their respective sports.

Award spokesperson Ingrid Moss said the athletes were nominated by their schools, sporting clubs, and individual supporters.

“The committee carefully selected them for their remarkable achievements,” she said.

The nominees for the 2023/24 Busselton Freight Rising Sports Star Award are:

Previous winners of the award have gone on to compete in the AFL, represent Western Australia and even Australia, and have received scholarships from the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) and the South West Academy of Sport.

“Busselton Freight has proudly sponsored the Rising Sports Star program since its inception in 2008, playing a crucial role in recognising and supporting the region’s young sporting talent. The program encourages these athletes to pursue excellence in their chosen fields, and the community eagerly anticipates celebrating their achievements on awards night.”

In addition to the Rising Sports Star award, there will be runner-up and encouragement awards handed out at the ceremony.
