Dunsborough locals Tara and Tim Hawken have partnered up with Eagle Bay Brewing Co to create a unique charity event to mark the spookiest time of year.

Dubbed ‘The Brain Eaters Ball’, the Halloween-themed event will raise money and awareness for brain cancer research.

After Tara went through a cancer diagnosis, two brain surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation, the pair wanted to do something for others going through a similar journey.

“Brain cancer has one of the worst survival rates of any type of cancer,” explained Tara, who was first diagnosed back in 2010.

“Only one in five people make it past five years, so I’m one of the very, very lucky ones.

“So much more research needs to be done to improve outcomes and provide hope.

“We’ve put The Brain Eaters Ball together to do just that, and hopefully have some extra fun along the way too.

“We’re grateful to have such incredible partners and local businesses come on board to help.

“It’s shaping up to be an amazing event.”

The ball, to be held on Friday November 1, will take place at Eagle Bay Brewing Co with all profits from ticket sales donated to The Brain Cancer Centre.

Gannaway’s Charters Tours will be running shuttle buses to the location on the night, with the fares also going to the charity.

Alongside the event, there is also an online auction for The Brain Cancer Centre with some incredible items up for grabs, including a luxury adventure cruise on the iconic True North, a weekend at Smith’s Beach Resort, and thousands in international travel, thanks to Solis Travel.

There are also contributions from other local businesses including Feel Good Inc, Empire Yallingup Resort, Jen Thomas Art and Ian Mutch Art, alongside football memorabilia and experiences from The West Coast Eagles, Fremantle Dockers and Peel Thunder.

The auction is open nationwide, with bidding already underway.
