Beloved musician Lexyanna says her songs are inspired by her lifes journey, heritage, language, and the stories passed down through generations.

The annual Bunuru Festival will return to Pioneer Park in Cowaramup next month, for a day of celebration of culture and community on Wadandi Boodja.

‘Bunuru’ is one of the six Noongar seasons, and is marked by hot and dry conditions, traditionally drawing people to coastal areas to live and fish by the cooler sea breeze and abundant waters of the South West.

Presented by the Undalup Association, the festival will run from 12pm to 5pm on Saturday February 22 and will feature a lineup of talented musicians including Lexyanna, Stellar Moon, Boox Kid, and Maatakitj, as well as cultural dances, bush foods talks and Noongar language lessons.

A collaborative live art mural with Hope Perth will also be created during the festival, along with a schedule of workshops and activities for all ages at the family-friendly, smoke and vape-free event.

Attendees can enjoy a variety of local food trucks, including MR Smash, Little Hand Dumplings, and Bella Napoli, along with two ice cream trucks – Gather Foods and Berry Bliss – and coffee vendors.

An Elders Tent will provide a space for reflection and connection, while a diverse range of stalls will showcase Indigenous wares and art, featuring vendors such as Deadly Denim, Yalkarang Consulting, Owl Friendly, Judy Bye, and Margaret Gidgup.

Undalup Association Chair Zac Webb emphasised the festival’s role in fostering community ties.

“It’s about bringing community together, on country, to celebrate country,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out there, friends and families connecting and enjoying the music, crafts, and activities.

Noongar songmaker Maatakitj will bring his electrifying desert blues and dance music to the Bunuru Festival in February.

“I’m really looking forward to the day where our family can celebrate culture alongside the wider community that live and work on Saltwater Country.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket and water vessel to enjoy the day.

The Bunuru Festival will land at Pioneer Park on Saturday February 22.
