Teachers and staff at Margaret River Independent School (MRIS) have joined a meeting to further the school community’s efforts to bridge cultural divides and promote reconciliation.
Since 2006, Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPS) have enabled organisations to sustainably and strategically take meaningful action to advance reconciliation based around three core principles – relationships, respect and opportunity.
MRIS Principal Wendy Roediger said all staff spent Monday last week with Marie Whitely of the Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA) to guide “our-whole-school approach to Indigenous culture, sustainability, inter-connectedness, history, beliefs and care for Country”.
A working committee was reformed, and will be working throughout the year to develop and enact the plan at the school.
Spokesperson and Year 6 teacher Laura Nicholls said the group was keen to continue the work.
“We look forward to building and maintaining deep Indigenous knowledge for all,” she said.
