Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie (far right) pledged funding to upgrade canteen facilities at the Lower Western Oval, and for a trailer for the MR Surf Lifesaving Club.

Two local sporting facilities have been promised significant injections of funds, if the Cook Labor government is re-elected next month.

Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie was in town to announce the funding pledges, offering a $30,000 upgrade to the canteen at the Lower Western Oval in Margaret River.

The funding would refit and upgrade the facilities to serve local soccer, cricket, and rugby clubs and allow them to raise further funds for their organisations.

“Lower Western Oval is a hub of activity for local families and young people,” Ms Kelsbie said.

“By improving the canteen, we’re not only enhancing the experience for players and their families but also helping these clubs generate income, which will support them in the long-term.”

Ms Kelsbie also pledged a further $25,000 to purchase a custom built trailer for the Margaret River Surf Life Saving Club.

The dual-axle trailer would assist the club to transport all its surf lifesaving gear to the beach in a single trip, while providing secure storage for the equipment.

Purpose-built for surf lifesaving needs, it will also provide secure storage for equipment.

She said the upgrade would bolster the club’s participation in competitions, and strengthen its capacity to engage with families and the community.

“The Margaret River Surf Life Saving Club plays a vital role in our community, bringing families and individuals together through sport, recreation, and lifesaving skills.

“This commitment will deliver a purpose-built trailer to make equipment transport safer and more efficient, giving club members more time to focus on their essential work and the activities they love,” she said.

“By supporting this initiative, we’re helping the club grow its capacity to engage with the community, host events, and participate in competitions, all while ensuring lifesaving services remain strong in our region.

“Surf lifesaving is about more than the beach – it’s about building community, encouraging active lifestyles, and supporting volunteers who keep us safe.”
