Margaret River skaters Jake Turnbull (9) and Indigo Dale (14) have returned from the Groundswell Festival in Scarborough, delivering some fantastic results as they represented their hometown with pride.

The event is the largest skateboarding competition in WA, and this year drew in huge crowds to watch Perth skater Mia Kretzer after she collected gold at the X Games earlier this year.

At just 9 years old, Jake Turnbull took on much older competitors in the 16 and Under category, where he landed a complete run and came away with the silver medal – just one point separating him from first place, which was won by Dunsborough’s Otis Sienkewitz.

The young skater’s star is on the rise, the first skateboarder to be sponsored by Australian company Step One, as well as support from Element Skateboards.

Indigo Dale competed in the Women’s Open category against Kretzer, throwing down some technical tricks to earn her a bronze medal. The young local skates for Maple Road skateboards and Aikenheads.

Boasting some of the best facilities in WA, the Margaret River skateboarding scene is stronger than ever, with Jake and Indigo leading the charge spending most of their free time training for their next competitions.

Both have their eyes on potential Olympic and XGames appearances as they focus on the future of the sport.
