South West's maritime heritage on display

The Seafarer's Canvas will showcase works from 20 local artists, timed to coincide with International Maritime Day on 26 September.
A powerful new mixed art exhibition at the the City of Busselton’s Old Courthouse Complex will showcase maritime-inspired works to coincide with International Maritime Day on 26 September.
The collection will feature works from 20 local artists and will run from 26 September to 22 October in the Bond Store Gallery.
Busselton Cultural Precinct Curator, Sharon Williams said The Seafarer’s Canvas captured the indomitable spirit of those who embark on maritime adventures through an array of artistic interpretations, including paintings, printmaking, textile art and ceramics.
“Art enthusiasts are invited to delve into captivating oceanic works on display, from tranquil coastal vistas to dramatic forces of the sea,” Ms Williams said.
“Each piece reflects a unique aspect of the maritime experience, capturing the beauty, mystery, and peril of seafaring life.”
The Seafarer’s Canvas will open alongside a fascinating new heritage exhibition about the infamous S.S. Georgette shipwreck, which occurred in nearby waters almost 150 years ago.
Forgotten Voyages – Rediscovering the S.S. Georgette recounts the harrowing final voyage of a steamer sail ship along the south coast of Western Australia in 1876.
Free to experience, history buffs can take a deep dive into accounts of heroism, heartbreak and the series of events and errors that resulted in the tragic loss of 12 souls at sea.
“Join us in celebrating the essence of those who have ventured across the sea in this enthralling fusion of art and history at the Old Courthouse Complex.”
The Seafarer’s Canvas will showcase works from Georgia Zoric, Sharon Williams, Lindell Winter Winn, Barbara Weeks, Abbey Telfer, Carol Seeley, Deb Robins, Graeme Pages-Oliver, Chris Oakley, Carol Mulhearn, Rhonda Moore, Tamorin Lavers, Lara Louise Karpeljuk, Lynda Feodorovs, Robert Davis, Dee Credaro, Lynne Boladeras, Jean Barrett, Tracie Anderson and Alice Alder.
