Ten South West businesses will share $1.1 million in funding to support local job creation and economic diversity through Round 7 of the Cook Government’s Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants program.

The funding aims to strengthen regional businesses and create sustainable employment opportunities across the South West.

Regional Development Minister Don Punch said the grants provide opportunities to diversify regional economies while creating sustainable employment.

“These locally driven projects are making meaningful changes in our communities, creating real jobs and developing new business opportunities,” Mr. Punch said.

A $150,000 grant will enable Jezebel Enterprises Pty Ltd to construct a new helicopter hangar at the Busselton-Margaret River Regional Airport.

The facility will accommodate up to 12 aircraft and create opportunities for up to 10 new pilots within two years, supporting the growing tourism demand from Melbourne and Sydney flights.

Addressing the region’s critical accommodation needs, La Colmena Hostel in Margaret River secured $150,000 to increase its capacity to 94 beds.

The expanded facility expects to accommodate an additional 800 workers annually, supporting local tourism and agricultural industries.

“Improving local manufacturing and accommodation is essential for our regional communities,” Mr Punch said. “These investments strengthen locally based services and make our regional towns more liveable.”

The RED Grants program, representing a $55.85 million investment over nine years, has already directed more than $5 million toward 58 projects in the South West region.

The program continues to support various sectors, including tourism, accommodation, and manufacturing.

“The diverse range of South West projects reflects the innovative work happening across our region,” Mr Punch said.

“Each project contributes to building stronger, more sustainable communities while creating new opportunities for local residents.”
