South West police operations result in multiple arrests
South West police have been kept busy over the holiday period, with a series of arrests made across the region including multiple people charged with drug offences.
Sergeant Chris Yexley from the Busselton Police said the Canine Section was employed during a drug operation, with a narcotic detection dog on hand when officers from Busselton and Dunsborough Police Stations conducted proactive Misuse of Drug Act search warrants at several addresses within Busselton and Dunsborough on March 28.
“Over the course of the day, six people were charged with 14 offences which mainly related to the Misuse of Drugs Act and Weapons Act,” Sgt Yexley said.
“It was a positive result for the respective stations with targeting drug dealers being a key component of our business.”
Sgt Yexley said the addresses were targeted following intelligence received from the public, and urged locals to continue making reports.
“I would like to encourage anyone to contact Crimestoppers with any information,” he said. “The more calls we get the better the evidence we have to be able to do search warrants like we did on this day.”
On April 23, Busselton Police officers also conducted a Misuse of Drugs Act search warrant in Karridale, once again acting on information from the public.
“As a result of the search approximately 1.5kg of cannabis was located and seized by Police. A male was charged with six offences including possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and released onto bail.”
On the same day, police were made aware that a stolen vehicle was travelling from Margaret Rover to Busselton with the vehicle being stolen earlier from the Perth metro area.
Sgt Yexley said multiple police units attended the area, and a tyre deflation device was utilised on Bussell Highway near the Busselton industrial area.
“The stolen vehicle was stopped and a juvenile was taken into custody,” he said. “They were charged with Steal Motor Vehicle, No Authority To Drive, Fail To Stop When Called Upon and Obstruct Police.”
The offender was bailed to appear in court at a later date.
