South West groms dominate in monster Main Break effort

Almost 100 of WA’s top young surfers put on an electrifying displays at Surfers Point over the weekend, at the opening event of the 2025 WA Junior Surfing Titles.

Main Break delivered great conditions, with clean and consistent 2-4 feet waves on offer across the three-day event.

Competitors from across WA were hoping to secure their spot into the Australian Junior Surfing Titles in South Australia this November. South-West surfers dominated, winning all eight divisions.

Margaret River’s Olive Hardy took out the Under-18 Girls final, following close in the footsteps of older sister Willow. Hardy kept her composure under pressure to take the win with a combined total of 13.34, that included an excellent 8.17.

Mia Jacobs (Gracetown), finished in a close second ahead of Bronte Scott (Swanbourne), and Edel Rodden (Geraldton).

Okie Fraser (Margaret River) was an event standout, dropping massive scores all event on his way to victory in Under-18 Junior Boys final.

Fraser’s powerful rail work and superior wave selection earned him a 15.83 total, which included an 8.33 and 7.50.

Despite some great surfing of their own, Remy North (Yallingup), Maverick Wilson (Dunsborough), and Jack Bulloch (Secret Harbour), were all left chasing excellent scores to for the win.

Cowaramup’s Grace Cook was unstoppable in the Under-16 final, surfing with speed, power and flow to post an impressive two-wave total of 15.83.

Cook is another surfer who has experienced a great start to 2025, taking down Leila Fraser (Margaret River), Poppy Redman Carr (Dunsborough), and Stella Annesley (Margaret River).

Ace Flynn (Cowaramup) dominated the Under-16 Boys final, blending powerful turns with precision at every opportunity.

He set the tone early and never looked back, finishing on a 13.33 total to take down fellow rippers Jahli Clarke (Cowaramup), Cruz Uros (Dunsborough), and Brody Mulik (Margaret River).

She set the tone early and finished on a two-wave total of 14.83, overcoming fellow rippers Paige Hayward (Margaret River), Rosie Annesley (Margaret River), and Lily Naylor (Cowaramup).

Jasper Glossop (Vasse) took out the Under-14 Grom Boys final, edging past a stacked field of future stars, including Darcy Gee (Dunsborough), Jack Bowdell (Cowaramup), and Ollie Holmes (Dunsborough), with a combined total of 13.10.

The 10 year old looked completely in sync with the Surfers Point swells, locking in two seven point plus rides, to finish on a combined total of 14.60, in the Under-12 Girls final.

Thomas’ local knowledge proved too strong for Amelie Waddell (Wembley Downs) and Indie McEwan (Marmion).

Kyuss Rimmer (Trigg), was the best of the Under-12 Boys, finding the best waves on offer and executing solid turns on his way to a two-wave total of 12.17.

Oscar Cawley (Margaret River), Brysen Gee (Dunsborough), and Vander McEwan (Marmion), all proved the future of WA surfing is in safe hands.

Paige Hayward claimed the Creatures of Leisure ‘Little Legend’ Award for her outstanding efforts and commitment throughout the event.
