South West brings home 26th Country Championships title
The NARA South West League side have won their 26th Nutrien Ag Country Championships, with a 19 point win over Peel at Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
It would be a nervous start from both teams, with the South West kicking two behinds, which would be followed by two behinds from Peel.
Ten minutes elapsed in the first quarter before the first goal would be scored, courtesy of Jye Clark from a set shot.
Peel were attacking relentlessly but Tom Gorter stood tall in defence, but eventually the Cavaliers via Lachlan Cullen kicked a goal from a set shot to give Peel the lead at quarter time.
Thirty seconds into the second quarter, Baiden Parsons kicked a brilliant dribble kick to give the South West back the lead, and when Ben Ganzet converted a set shot the South West led by nine points.
The South West attacked relentlessly but the Peel defence were up to the task, and eventually the Cavaliers got the ball forward with Zac Moody kicking truly to narrow the margin to three points.
A minute later, despite all of the dominance of the South West, Peel hit the front with a clever snap by Jeffrey Carter.
A key moment in the match happen ten seconds before half time, when Liam Creighton snapped a great goal from beyond the boundary line, giving the South West momentum going into half time.
That momentum carried through to the third term where the match would be won.
The South West kicked three goals, keeping Peel scoreless.
Jason Carter, who played a brilliant game and seeming was everywhere, kicked a great goal from hard up against the boundary line, while Luke English had the ball fall in his lap after Liam Creighton slipped over, kicking the ball in slippery conditions.
Zac Trigwell found himself at the back of the pack in the goal square, kicking a crucial goal to give South West a 19 point lead as the rain started to fall.
Eight minutes of stoppages and boundary throw ins, eroded time off the clock, and eventually Baiden Parsons would kick the opening goal of the final term after receiving a free kick, giving South West a 28 point lead.
Peel never stopped trying and scored a late goal, with the final margin 19 points.
Jack Fletcher did a tonne of work around the ground and was named the best player in the Grand Final, while Jason Carter had a tonne of possessions at all points of the ground.

Round 15 of the SWFL competition resumes this weekend, with Augusta Margaret River travelling to Brunswick Oval to take on Harvey Brunswick Leschenault on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, Bunbury will face the Harvey Bulls at PC Payne Park, and Collie will host Dunsborough at the Collie Recreation Ground.
Sunday sees Busselton welcome Eaton to Sir Stewart Bovell Park, and Donnybrook and South Bunbury will meet at VC Mitchell Park. Carey Park will take the bye.
