South West artists bring stories to life | Photos
Artists and art lovers gathered at Margaret River HEART to celebrate the unveiling of works entered in this year’s Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival ‘Visual Stories’ competition.
Artists were invited to submit works which communicate and showcase the power of storytelling and the unique sense of place that is Wadandi Boodja through their chosen medium.
The competition runs as part of the annual literary festival, celebrating the region’s artists and the connection between written word and visual art.
Entry was open to artists aged over 17 years from the Shire of Augusta Margaret River, the City of Busselton and the Shire of Nannup.
Prizes were awarded on the night including the overall winning entry, by local artist Laurie Posa. Second prize went to this year’s Margaret River Art Prize winner Cindy Nasato, while Sue Briggs, Shayne Hadley, Isabel Ricketts and Jillian Warnock received high commendations for their entries from judge Helen Seiver.
With a wide range of mediums and interpretations of the theme, the collection is a captivating display of the talents of local artists including Bevely Young, Bonny Thomas, Carmen Griffen, Caroline Bannister, Cindy Nasato, Daniela Tommasi, Dawn Brittain, Delfina Monteverde, Emily Eldridge, Eva Cassini, Gordon Boettcher, I Gusti Ayu Made Mahendri, Ian Thwaites, Jacqui Brown, Jennifer Bryce, Jenny Potts Barr, Jill Warnock, Karen Larkin, Karin Luciano, Kevin Singer, Kim Rasmussen, Laima Kuliukas, Laura Griffith, Laurie Posa, Lee-Anne Townrow, Lesley Ann Byfield, Lisa Rochford, Marcelle Egberts, Marion Graeber, Mirella Prolongeau, Misty Shipway, Mo L’Artiste (Morgane Chebahi), Mudita Jeanette Bray, Nirala (Carol) Hunt, Pascale Abbott, Peter Maxwell, Renee OC, Rona Mirtle, Shayne Hadley, Shelley McNab, Sue Briggs, Victoria Robertson, Wendy Castleden, Isabel Ricketts, Annie Williams, Lorraine McGill, Kerrie Yabsley, Aimee Hurley, Jennifer Gherardi, Carole Maher, Pauline Alferink, Kay Gibson, Saul Atkinson, Robyn Collins, Tim Kerr, Sam James, Caralynn Hoft, Ned Reilly, Amanda Evans, Rika Rouw and Liliana Lopez.
The exhibition will be on display in the Margaret River HEART foyer gallery until May 30.
