The Shire of Augusta Margaret River says a new streamlined system for busking permits will enhance Margaret River’s cultural vibrancy, making it easier for local and visiting buskers to perform in public spaces.
Busking fees will be waived, and an online booking system will making applications for permits simpler for those wanting to perform on the region’s streets.
Shire President Julia Meldrum highlighted the importance of revitalising the Margaret River Main Street, and easing interactions with the Shire.
“We are committed to nurturing a vibrant arts scene and making it easier for performers to engage with our community,” she said.
“By waiving busking fees and simplifying processes, we support local talent and welcome artists from outside our region to enrich our public spaces and cultural life.”
The fee waiver and online permit applies to street performers, musicians and artists in designated public places within the Margaret River townsite.
The Shire said standard busking conditions would still apply, with larger performances – such as big brass bands – and dangerous stunts requiring further permissions.
“This decision is part of the Shire Council’s broader effort to promote artistic expression and streamline the processes for all involved.”
The fee waiver is effective immediately, and permits can be obtained online via the Shire website, or in person at the Shire’s Margaret River office.
Approved performance locations can also be found on the Shire website.
