Margaret River’s Jake Turnbull continues to impress with his skateboard, taking on much older competitors and impressing crowds with his moves.

This weekend, Turnbull was in Mandurah to compete in the BMD Rumble skate competition, where at just 10 years of age the young skater took out the Under 16 category.

After his first run, Turnbull was sitting in second position, but knew what he needed to do in his second attempt, throwing down a winning score to take the gold.

This is his second gold medal in two weeks, having taken out the Action Sports Games earlier in March.

The young athlete said he was continuing to push himself and is committed to his training.

He began making a name for himself from a very young age, known for his bravery and determination taking on his home skate park in Margaret River with tenacity beyond his years.

A spokesperson from Turnbull’s team said the WA skateboarding scene was “going off” and said they hoped to see more competitions held in the region.

“We are so lucky that Margaret River is home to one of the best skate parks in WA.

“We are optimistic that the Augusta Margaret River Shire will bring back a competition here as it was stopped prior to COVID-19.

“With some of the top skaters in WA calling Margaret River their local, we can only hope this happens soon in the future.”
