Simple spot scan as service heads to Dunsborough

April will see the Lions Cancer Institute (LCI) providing free Skin Cancer Screenings in Dunsborough.
Dunsborough locals are being urged to take part in a free cancer screening service aimed at early detection and prevention, with a convenient location landing early next month.
The Lions Cancer Institute (LCI) will be providing a free Skin Cancer Screening in Dunsborough on Saturday April 5 and Sunday April 6 from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Dunsborough and Districts Sporting Club Gifford Rd Dunsborough.
This free service provides for the early detection of skin lesions and where a lesion is identified a referral is made to your GP for further investigation.
The Lions Cancer Institute is a project of the Lions Clubs of Western Australia, a spokesperson said.
“Since early 1990’s LCI has been providing full body skin screening clinics throughout Western Australia, with an emphasis on Screening the remote and rural areas of the state.
“From humble beginnings the Volunteers of LCI have screened over 80 000 patients and our records show that with the annual rate of referrals to a GP is in the order of 27 percent (21,600) and lesions suspected of being life threatening are at 6 percent (1260).
“Early detection of lesions will save lives and lessen the need for invasive surgery.”
LCI’s screening program is supported by qualified volunteer Dermatologists, Plastic Surgeons, Dermoscopists and GPs.
Funding for LCI’s screening programs and research grants is provided by donations from Lions Clubs of WA, Business and from the general public.
