Warning: Discretion is advised, disturbing content

Footage has emerged of disturbing acts of purported animal cruelty in the Margaret River region, after it was shared on numerous social media platforms this week.

The footage – which has been viewed by the Mail – depicts emus being deliberately run down by a vehicle on a bush track, as well as what appears to be teenagers, using instruments to cause further damage to the deceased animals.

The emus appear to be running to escape the vehicle, which accelerates to catch and run down the birds, which are launched over the bonnet before disappearing in front of the car.

Further imagery shows a vehicle with what appears to be remnants of the deceased animals, stuck in wheels of a Ford Falcon. Image: Instagram.

The Mail has chosen not to publish the footage due to the confronting nature of the contents.

It is understood from numerous reports and videos received by this publication that the footage was uploaded by local teens.

Margaret River Police said on Thursday afternoon that they were not aware of any reports on the incident.

An RSPCA WA spokesperson said no reports had been made as yet, however they encouraged anyone with information about the incident to report it.

Animal cruelty can be reported to the RSCPA WA via www.rspcawa.org.au or 1300 CRUELTY (278 358).
