Shire works team to the rescue during storms

There was plenty to do on Saturday as Shire works teams helped residents clear roads following the weekend's storms. Pictures supplied.

A local resident has thanked Shire of Augusta Margaret River workers, who headed out into the driving rain over the weekend to deal with a fallen tree after the region experienced heavy winds.
Resident Jenn Stevens said the Shire Works crew, including Phil Lantzke and Jono Frylinck, Ethan Mills and Phill Ross, leapt into action after a call about the tree on Tanah Marah Road on Saturday.
“We’re lucky to have these unsung heroes who are out in all kinds of weather keeping the back roads safe,” Jenn told the Mail after the team had arrived with equipment and vehicles to clear the road.

Shire Director Sustainable Development and Infrastructure Nick Logan said the people working within the Shire were often unsung heroes, stepping in to help their fellow locals.
“We’re grateful for the commitment of our works team who worked tirelessly over the weekend to keep our community safe, while the rest of us were at home with our families,” he said.

“Our crews worked 12 hour days on both on Saturday and Sunday cleaning up after the storms, clearing multiple trees that had fallen across roads, erecting signage across flooded roads and attending to blocked drains.”
