Shire seeks public comment on beach parking
The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is calling for community input to improve beach parking in the region.
“As the weather warms up, it’s no surprise people want to enjoy our beautiful beaches,” Shire chief executive Andrea Selvey said. “Augusta Margaret River is a bucket-list travel destination and one of the fastest-growing regions in the state, which is puts pressure on our beach infrastructure and amenities.
“If we want the State or Federal Government to make an investment in upgrading our parking, footpaths and public toilets infrastructure along our coast, we need clear priorities and costed designs,” she said.
“And before we do that, we want to ensure our plans align with the needs of our community.”
The Shire has developed initial concept plans for locations in Prevelly and Gnarabup, with the public encouraged to provide feedback to help in refining the plans.
The plans include additional parking bays, expanded bike parking, improved footpaths, and enhanced facilities at locations including Mitchell Drive, the Gnarabup beach top car park, Grunters and Gas Bay.
The Shire said path re-realignment plans for Riflebutts to the White Elephant Cafe, and for the Cape to Cape track had also been prepared.
Feedback can be provided via the Shire’s Your Say page by 5pm, Monday 25 November 2024.
