Second Busselton councillor announces resignation
The City of Busselton has announced the resignation of Councillor Sue Riccelli, the second councillor to step down since last year’s October Local Government Election.
Cr Riccelli will leave the position effective February 14 2024, with more than three years remaining on her four year term.
Cr Cherise Woodhams also resigned from Council in November 2023, citing health concerns.
Cr Riccelli was first elected to Council in 2019.
“Cr Riccelli attended some 82 Ordinary and Special Council meetings, served on ten different committees and was Chair for the Lower Vasse River Advisory Group during her time,” a City spokesperson said.
Cr Riccelli thanked the local community for its support.
“I wish to sincerely thank the community for the opportunity to represent them and for their support over the last four and a half years,” she said.
Mayor Phill Cronin said it was bittersweet to hear of Cr Riccelli’s resignation.
“While we lose a dedicated, hardworking Councillor, the community gains a passionate professional,” he said.
“I am sure Cr Riccelli has a bright future ahead of her and on behalf of Council, wish her all the best.”
The departure will see the open Council position offered to candidate Richard Beecroft, after candidate Val Kaigg took up the vacancy left by Cr Woodhams late last year.
