Josh Yates (left, with with SW Liaison Officer Jane Beatty) was awarded the EdConnect South West Volunteer of the Year.
A South West resident has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to local students at the recent EdConnect Australia Volunteer Awards.
Learning support and mentor volunteer Josh Yates received the South West Learning Support Volunteer of the Year Award, honoured for his efforts and impact on local school students since he began volunteering in 2007.
EdConnect said he had built strong relationships with students and had made a lasting impact, with his reliability, commitment, and enthusiastic approach making him a valuable part of the Vasse Primary School community.
“With his patient and calm approach Josh provides an encouraging environment for students who he is working with.
“He is known for his dedication and commitment to growing the reading ability of students.”
Josh was nominated by multiple staff at the school and they have nothing but praise for him and his genuine enjoyment, patience and kindness describing him as “a champion!”
“Josh is a phenomenal volunteer and supporter of EdConnect,” EdConnect Area Manager Karen Barden said.
“He demonstrates to students a positive attitude every day, he is always happy, outgoing and chatty.
“He loves being part of the school environment and encouraging students.
“As a legally blind person, Josh is a role model to all that know him.”
The annual awards celebrate the volunteers who donate their time and energy to the education and learning of primary and secondary students in Western Australia.
