Rosie's star on the rise after year of surf success

Local surfing sensation Rosie Gillett has been named the Busselton Freight Rising Star for September 2024, further cementing her place among Australia’s most promising young athletes.
This year, Rosie’s talent and dedication earned her a coveted invitation to join the prestigious South West Academy of Sport, providing her with invaluable resources to enhance her athletic journey.
Rosie’s impressive accomplishments reflect her steady progression as a competitive force in surfing. In 2023, she claimed major victories, including winning the Taj Small Fries under-16 girls’ division, the Gracetown Grom in both under-14 and under-16 categories, and a round of the WA Junior Surfing Titles. She also placed fourth in the Australian Junior Titles School Allstar Team in the U16 girls’ category.
Her success has continued with standout performances, including winning Round 1 of the WA Junior Surfing Titles (U16 Girls). She competed in the Think Mental Health Trials as a precursor to the Margaret River Pro, placed third in Round 2 and second in Round 3 of the Woolworths WA Junior Surfing Titles, and secured the title of Runner-Up WA State Champion U16 Girls.
At the national level, Rosie competed in events such as the Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp and Skullcandy Oz Grom Open and won the U19 Women’s division at the Sunshine Surf Masters in Geraldton. Additionally, she achieved top-five finishes in the Peel Pro and Cape Naturaliste Pro. Rosie’s latest honour comes as she represented WA at the Australian Junior Titles in Wollongong this November, competing in the U16 Girls division.
Her achievements demonstrate her unwavering dedication, skill, and potential. As the Rising Star winner, Rosie continues to inspire the local community while representing the region on both state and national stages.
