Organisers say record entries into next year’s Margaret River Ultra Marathon will make it the largest edition of the event to date.

The 8th iteration of the event will take place on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th May 2025, after the 80km ultra marathon sold out this week.

The biggest ever field of 400 runners will complete the distance solo, almost doubling the race’s solo entry numbers in just 3 years.

An additional 250 relay teams of 2 to 5 members will be sharing the 80km distance. Remarkably, relay teams reached capacity within 32 minutes last month with 1,100 participants filling the 250 team entry slots on offer last month.

A wait-list has been set up with a further 100 teams hopeful of securing an entry.

With the 80km event sold out, interested runners are encouraged to enter the newly popular 42km trail marathon held on the Sunday as their only alternative.

Limited places remain with the race currently 85 percent full.

“Our field limits are designed to foster individual achievement and maintain the exceptional experience we’re known for,” Sam Maffett, General Manager of Rapid Ascent said.

“This year, we’ve seen a clear surge in demand for solo spots, and we’re excited to see so many athletes taking on the challenge of running 80km on their own!”

The 80km point-to-point ultra course sees competitors start at Hamelin Bay and head north along the Cape-to-Cape coastline, passing through Boranup, Redgate and Gracetown. Runners then head inland to the finish line at Howard Park Winery in Wilyabrup.

The 42km trail marathon was first held in 2024 will see participants starting at Yallingup Beach and heading south along the Cape to Cape track to the same finish line at Howard Park Winery on the Sunday.

“We’re overwhelmed by the demand, and we’re incredibly proud and grateful of the community that support this event,” Maffett said.

A 2km Kids Run will also be held in the morning of Sunday May 11 just prior to official presentations in the same location.
