Organisers of Dunsborough’s popular Sculpture by the Bay in South West WA have expressed their sympathy over the cancellation of Cottesloe’s Sculpture by the Sea.

Committee spokesperson Greg Banfield said the Cottesloe event was an important pathway for Western Australian artists and it would be a significant loss for participants and audiences.

“It’s a major event on our Western Australian Arts Calendar,” he said.

“Fortunately, in the South West we have strong community support for Sculpture by the Bay, held annually in Dunsborough.

“The event is organised and run by a strong and dedicated force of volunteers.”

Mr Banfield said WA artists would still have a place to exhibit their sculptural works at the Dunsborough event.

“We recently closed applications for our 2025 event on the March long weekend, and we have had a record response,” he said.

“We are currently assessing how we can exhibit more sculptures than previous years to accommodate the applications.”

Sculptures by the Bay, held in conjunction with the Dunsborough Arts Festival, attracts more than 10,000 visitors to the region, and has grown into a premier event on the South West arts calendar.

Each year, the Dunsborough Foreshore, the town’s main street, and the award-winning Christian Fletcher Gallery are transformed by artists into a visual feast of indoor and outdoor sculptural works.
