A stunning opening term by Busselton has set up a solid 23 point win over Harvey Brunswick Leschenault, and kept the Magpies finals chances very much alive.
The round fifteen encounter at Sir Stewart Bovell Park was played in beautiful conditions, with the Magpies stunning the Lions with the first six goals of the match, to have the visitors on the back foot for the remainder of the game.
Liam Creighton and Mitch Tenardi, both returning from Representative Football in Adelaide last weekend, ran amok on Bovell Park, with Tenardi landing a multitude of possessions, and Creighton kicking six goals – the third time this season that he has done so.
After trailing by 34 points at quarter time, the Lions were able to peg the margin back to 30 points at half time and to twenty five points at three quarter time, but every goal they managed to kick was quickly answered by Busselton.
Jozef Parkinson again played a good game for the Magpies, as did Lucas Kemp, while Ned Gualter and Blake Offer were amongst the best for the Lions.
The result keeps the Lions in third, now a game behind Bunbury in the race for a home final. The win for Busselton now has them very much back in the mix for the finals, with a match against Eaton in round sixteen, which could see fourth placed Carey Park drop out of the five as they have the bye, such is the closeness now of the finals positions.
