The region’s new Anglican priest, Rev Kevin Toovey enjoyed a special visit with some local residents at a recent Blessing of the Animals service at St Mary’s Church in Cowaramup.

“St Francis said all animals are sacred to God”, Rev Toovey said, addressing attendees and their pets.

“We have set aside a special day of the year where we bless our pets and animals, and thank God for all the love and care they show to us.”

A new arrival earlier this year, Rev Toovey has been quick to embrace the South West community spirit, dressing up in a cow onesie for DejaMoo soon after stepping into the role and opening the doors to the Cowaramup church to meet his new neighbours.

Rev Toovey said despite some lapses in concentration from the four-legged visitors, the service went smoothly.

“It’s great to bring them into the church even if they get a bit distracted and want to check everything out during the service!”
