The Cowaramup District Social Club was established in 1954, built by founding members on land donated by the Earl family.

The Cowaramup District Social Club will mark its 70th anniversary this weekend, with a birthday bash to celebrate the community-led club kicking off from 4pm on Saturday, September 14.

“The Cowaramup Club is a cherished institution spanning generations,” Club President Billy Pascoe said.

“We are and always will be a community club – and we wouldn’t be here today if not for the support of our members and the local community. It’s a relationship we truly appreciate.”

Established in 1954, the Club is a not-for-profit organisation built by its founding members on land donated by the Earl family.

At a meeting in early 1950, Bill Dempster moved that Branch members should sponsor the development of a Social Club, and by late September 1953, building was underway.

Today, the Club remains an integral part of the growing community, welcoming locals and visitors for meals, drinks, meetings of local groups, family celebrations and farewells for much loved residents.

Mr Pascoe said in keeping with the whole-community ethos around the venue, the birthday event would offer something for everyone.

Members from all corners of the Cowaramup community make use of the space to socialise and engage in local clubs and groups.

“We have plenty planned for the celebration,” he said. “Great food, cold beer, live music from local artist Olive Mae, a bouncy castle, face painting, giveaways and more.

“There will be historic photos on display, some which have been packed away for decades. It’s certainly worth a look.”

The Club is a favourite spot for locals to enjoy live music, good food and community spirit.

The Cowaramup Bowls Club will host free barefoot bowls for those who want to give it a go.

The club will also launch a line of new, limited-edition merchandise, available to purchase on the day. Inspired by the Club’s farming heritage, the range will consist of unisex t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies in multiple colours.

The bar is a hotspot for visitors to town and members to enjoy a drink and a catch up.

“This is a momentous occasion for the club,” Mr Pascoe said. “This event is a chance for us to reflect on our accomplishments and celebrate the community spirit that has led us to still exist today, as well as look forward to the future.

“The past seventy years have presented many challenges, but we’re proud to say it’s survived due to the hard work of its members and a commitment to keep it going through generous donations of time and money.”

All members past and present are welcome to attend the celebration, and current members will receive free entry on the day. Non members are encouraged to renew or sign up, with annual memberships ($25) allowing members to bring up to five guests to each visit, along with additional benefits.
