A couple of local legends have been recognised for their tireless dedication to their community and the sport of surfing.

At the most recent AGM of the Disabled Surfing Association South West, the group’s longest serving volunteers – Ant Pursell and Mick Marlin – were honoured with life membership.

“Both Ant and Mick have been deeply involved in the DSA since the inaugural events were first staged in 2007-2008,” a spokesperson said.

“Ant Pursell has been tireless in decades of service in the disabilities sector, serving as President of SWAN, Chairperson of WA iSports along with his role as President of the Disabled Surfing Association.

“Renowned South West surfing identity, historian and photographer, Mick Marlin, has been on the DSA committee since inception and has been meticulously recording each event with his wonderful camera work.”

The Disabled Surfing Association provides opportunities for people living with disability to take part in regular surfing days, bringing volunteers and carers together to help people enjoy the beauty of the beach and the thrill of catching some waves.
