No cause for alarm: Locals advised of coastal exercise

An emergency training exercise in Bunker Bay will take place on Saturday November 30, involving a wide range of emergency service personnel.

A ‘real life’ training exercise will take place at Bunker Bay this weekend, bringing together WA Police, the City of Busselton and a wide range of local emergency response services.

Busselton Mayor Phill Cronin said the day would provide an important opportunity for various local agencies to practice working alongside each other.

“This training scenario will enable multiple emergency responders within the City of Busselton to collaborate and put their emergency management skills and training into practice,” he said.

“This exercise will take place on the ocean and will utilise the immediate coastal areas.

“The relevant agencies will be responding as if it is a real life emergency situation so there will be a lot of activity in the area on the day.”

Dunsborough Police Sergeant Jon Adams said it was vital that agencies practice their responses to emergency management, “and no less so than for an incident at sea”.

“We live in an amazing part of the world but unfortunately emergencies can happen along our coast and in our district so this necessitates us to practice our responses,” Sgt Adams said.

To enable the training exercise to occur, areas around Bunker Bay, including sections of Shelly Beach Car Park, will be closed to the public on Saturday 30 November 2024 from 8.00am until 1.00pm.

The City said the community should not be concerned if they see various emergency responders in the area, taking part in the training program.
