Members of the Radio Margaret River crew prepare to host a launch party for the station's new FM frequency, and the opening of the new studios at the Margaret River Men's Shed.

After four years of internet radio streaming, Radio Margaret River (RMR) is getting ready to celebrate the start of broadcasts on its new FM frequency, on 101.9FM.

Radio Margaret River chair Pauline McLeod said the station was able to reach a wider audience, bringing the vibrant sound of Margaret River to homes, cars, and businesses across the region.

“We’re incredibly excited to take this next step,” Pauline said.

“This launch represents a thrilling new era for the station and the community.

“RMR has always been about creating a local radio experience for Margaret River… now we’ll go ‘live’ on the FM airwaves, as well as streaming on the internet. It’s history in the making!”

To celebrate the milestone, Radio Margaret River will host a special launch party at the Men’s Shed, the new home of RMR’s studios and office.

“The event will be a thank you to the many volunteers, supporters and listeners who have made the transition possible.”

Station Manager Richard Lee-Pullen encouraged everyone to tune in from 7pm on Friday March 28.

“We’re grateful to everyone who’s been part of this journey so far, and we can’t wait to share this special moment with the whole community,” he said.

“I encourage everyone to switch on their radios, turn the dial to 101.9FM, and share in this historic event.”

Radio Margaret River has been streaming online since its inception in 2020, but the addition of a community broadcasting licence for FM radio provides an even stronger voice for the community, local artists, and regional events.

“With 101.9FM, the station now has the power to broadcast locally in a way that strengthens its connection with listeners.”

The station’s new premises, shared with the Margaret River Men’s Shed, features a repurposed water tower structure onsite acting as the transmission tower.

Radio Margaret River’s FM broadcast will launch at 7pm on Friday March 28.
