The City of Busselton has purchased a new electric sports-field utility vehicle (UTV) to be used by staff at the Busselton Jetty Caravan Park.
The UTV will be used daily by staff to check bins, irrigation, general work around the grounds and moving materials as well as people.
“This UTV will replace an older diesel-fuelled vehicle, enabling a transition towards cleaner, greener park operations, whilst significantly reducing the level of noise emitted from daily work vehicle operations around the site,” a City spokesperson said.
“In time, it is also expected to cost less overall than other non-green alternatives.”
Using a series of rechargeable 6V batteries, the UTV does not require sophisticated charging infrastructure.
The City said it had sourced Natural Power for 16 facilities as part of a Sustainable Energy Project coordinated by the WA Local Government Association (WALGA).
“This has resulted in the City sourcing approximately 50 percent of its electricity needs from Natural Power.”
The City said it had installed PV solar systems at facilities including the Geographe Leisure Centre, Administration Building, Busselton Library, Naturaliste Community Centre, Busselton Depot and Community Resource Centre.
