A new community initiative in Margaret River needs volunteers to come on board to assist in the survival and regeneration of our natural landscapes.

Wayne Prangnell from the Margaret River Community Nursery urged locals to grab their gloves and join other volunteers in cultivating and nurturing local native plants.

“We’re thrilled to launch the Margaret River Community Nursery,” he said.

“And we’re looking to work with those who want to make a meaningful impact on our local environment.”

Mr Prangnell said the nursery was about more than just growing plants.

“It’s about restoring ecosystems, protecting biodiversity, and building a sustainable future together.

“With groups such as Nature Conservation Margaret River and Friends of Reserves groups already doing great work protecting and restoring our bushland, we will ensure that there is a healthy supply of local native plants to support their work.”

Volunteer roles include native plant propagators, helping to grow native plants from seeds and cuttings, and seed collectors who assist sourcing local seed suited to upcoming revegetation projects.

Administration tasks including volunteer coordination, social media management and treasury duties are also available to those who can spare some time.

“Whether you’re an experienced gardener or a novice looking to learn, there’s a place for you here.

“Volunteers will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty, learn from seasoned horticulturists, and be a part of a project that will benefit the community and the environment.

“We are looking for people who can volunteer for a couple of hours, one day per week, to be part of a small team.

“No previous experience or knowledge is required, but an interest in learning more about our local plants and working as part of a small team of volunteers is essential.”

An information session will be held from 10am to 12pm on Saturday August 17 at The Old Goods Shed, 41 Clarke Road Margaret River.
