Margaret River local Naomi Mothersole returned from the Busselton Agricultural Show this month with an impressive array of ribbons and a trophy.

In the 7 year old rider’s first horse event, Naomi rode ‘KL’ in several classes at the Show, collecting seven ribbons, as well as the Beryl Sutton encouragement award.

Named for a much loved stalwart of the Busselton Horse and Pony Club, the trophy capped off a very successful event for the young equestrian.

Naomi received the opportunity to learn to ride on the mare – Kerry-Lynn – thanks to a fellow local Dr Sheila Greenwell.

Kerry-Lynn, or KL, was rescued as a foal from a station in South Australia 20 years ago.

The Percheron Cross enjoys status as a local celebrity, working with disabled riders and undertaking ANZAC day parade duties, as well as breed and hacking events.

When not socialising, KL uses her considerable size – at no less than 16 hands – and smarts to muster cattle with Dr Sheila on board at a southern coastal bush property.

Naomi’s dad Rupert said his daughter loved KL dearly, and hopes to continue on her horse riding journey.

“She would like to thank Sheila, and all the volunteers at the Busso Show who make the horse events possible.”
