Bubbles and fairy lights festooned the Community Centre quadrangle, where over 200 people gathered for an embellished Soupie feast on Thursday evening.

Regular Soupie volunteers served up the curries, with local chefs Tony Howell and Kelly Dickinson overseeing the preparation and service of entrees and sweets, generously donated by a number of local restaurants and caterers.

The Sacred World Music Choir performed in front of the Old Church and DjErik provided tunes into the evening.

“It was fabulous to have the quadrangle full of people,” said Jessica Worrall, chair of Margaret River Community Centre.

“A massive thank you was extended to the 21artists who handcrafted the ceramic bowls, including Ian Dowling, Bill Meikeljohn, Stuart McKay and Matt Griffiths who have been a part of Bowls for Soupie since the beginning four years ago.”

Community Centre Manager Lydell Huntly said Bowls for Soupie had been a “fantastic fundraiser” for the centre to continue operating the soup kitchen and deliver other on-ground community support services.

“We are grateful for the support from the Lions Club, Voyager Estate, a number of local businesses and a swathe of volunteers,” Lydell said.

“Partnering with Arts Margaret River facilitated the exhibiting of bowls, and the auction component, which was popular.

“This year’s event was a great success, in terms of fundraising, showcasing the arts and also in the community coming together!”
