As the FIFA Women’s World Cup reached fever pitch over the week, closer to home the Football Margaret River family celebrated their own success, after both the Mens and Women’s senior teams collected big wins in the SWSA Pioneer Cup on Friday night.
Spirits were high on Saturday night as the FMR Junior Committee hosted a fundraising Quiz Night, where the FMR Mermaids, fresh from their Pioneer Cup win, took out the top spot on the quiz night ladder.
FMR Junior Coordinator Clare Newnham said the night was a big hit with quiz participants and showed the level of support for the sport across all grades in the region.
“We raised a very nice sum that will go towards kitting out our juniors in fresh uniforms for the 2024 season,” she said.

Clare thanked the FMR Junior Committee for putting the hard work in to make the event a success.
“To our fabulous barmen, Ian and Paul who spent the night running around making sure everything went smoothly,” she said.
“And thank you to QuizMaster extraordinaire Andrew who kept our brains busy all night.”
Local businesses Evans & Tate, Beerfarm and Gant & Co donated beer and wine for the event.
“Last but definitely not least, thank you to all the businesses who supported our Club with donations of goods and vouchers for us,” Clare said.
