The hard work and dedication of the region’s sporting stalwarts was recognised last week at the City of Busselton’s inaugural Sports Awards.

The Busselton Volleyball Association was named Club of the Year, while the Busselton Volleyball Men’s State League was Team of the Year.

Dunsborough Sharks FC’s Mark Delane continued a stellar 2023 with the Volunteer of the Year award, the Busselton Squash Club was recognised for its Club Governance, and the Busselton Jetty Swim was named Event of the Year.

Jai Macrides of Flow State Jiu Jitsu received the award for Coach of the Year, Joshua Yates received the Para Athlete of the Year award, and Sports Person of the Year was Patricia Vickery.

Max and Jenny Higgins and Richard and Leanne Ford all received Lifetime Achievement Awards.

The Busselton Squash Club was recognised for its outstanding Club Governance at the inaugural awards night.

Busselton Mayor Phill Cronin said he was in awe of the talent in the room.

“Their achievements, dedication and sportsmanship is truly remarkable,” he said.

“The award evening was a wonderful way to celebrate the dedication of so many, whether as a coach, mentor, committee member, individual or a team.”

Mr Cronin praised the sense of community around the region’s thriving sports clubs.

“Let’s not forget that it is also the passion and effort that is put into every practice, every game and every day that makes the City’s sports community exceptional,” he said.

“I can’t wait for next year and for those who didn’t nominate this year, make sure you do for 2024.

“Here’s to more victories, camaraderie and memorable moments in the future.”

The City extended thanks to sponsors, McDonalds, the McIntosh Family, Shelter Brewing Co., Latitude 33.7 Physiotherapy, Busselton Remedial Massage, Beachside Chiropractic and Hillzeez.
