Margaret River Boardriders has taken out the 32nd edition of The Surf Boardroom Surf League at Scarborough Beach over the weekend.

One of WA’s longest running and most prestigious surfing competitions saw seven clubs from around the state take part in a thrilling contest, featuring some of WA’s best surfing talents.

Solid conditions greeted competitors, while a decent crowd packed the beach to cheer on their favourites.

Each club selected their top six surfers – four open-age competitors, one Over-35 Master, and one Under-18 Junior, with each surfer’s top score contributing to their club’s overall tally.

Margaret River’s surfers dominated the 90 minute final, with standout performances from Macklin Flynn, Ben Spence, Solomon Pogue-Englert, Andrew Sheridan, Ace Flynn and Jack Mickle to secure the club’s first Surf League victory since 2019.

“We had a bit of a shocker a couple of weeks ago at the ABB event, so it feels good to come back and redeem ourselves,” Ben Spence said, after the club took the win over rivals Scarborough, Yallingup, and Trigg Point.

“Everyone surfed great today and we managed our time really well which is so important in these events, the waves have been really fun and well done to the all the boys.”

Margaret River clinched the win with a combined score of 48.56, edging out Scarborough in second on 42.51. Yallingup finished in third on 39.04, with Trigg Point in fourth on 35.63.

Scarborough’s Jake Molloy claimed the coveted Perry Hatchett Award, reserved for the best surfer in the final.

Molloy stomped a massive backside aerial reverse earning him the only perfect 10 point ride of the event.
