The Geographe Bay Yacht Club has recognised the achievements and impact of an important member of the team, as he steps down from a leadership role at the club.
At the club’s recent Annual General Meeting, Outgoing Commodore Anton Mann was formally recognised for completing his full three-year term as Commodore – a period marked by “transformational growth and leadership”.
“Under Anton’s guidance, GBYC has seen a significant rise in membership, the construction of the now much-loved alfresco area, the hosting of numerous State and National regattas, the expansion of Learn to Sail programs, and successful grant applications and a strengthened collaboration with the City of Busselton.

A strong turnout of members at the meeting last week celebrated another big year for the club, as well as welcoming new Commodore, Peter Togno to the top job.
Anton Mann will remain at the club in a leadership position as Vice Commodore, while Simon Green (Rear Commodore – Sailing), Greig Fowler (Rear Commodore – Juniors), Scott Olney (Rear Commodore – Race Week), Chris Togno (Rear Commodore – Social), Clare Conlon (Secretary), Tania Adams (Treasurer), Jim Jewell (Bosun) and Rod Smirk (Bosun – On Water) will round out the executive committee alongside general committee members Zac Nicols, Michael Conlon, Cam Waters, Ren Roodhouse, Barry Brown and Terry Compton.
Special thanks were extended to Cam Waters, who stepped down as Rear Commodore Sailing after a successful term, in which he organised major regattas and developed digital systems which improved committee operations.
The club also welcomed Zac Nicols and partner Dee as caretakers, who will soon move into the upstairs apartment above the training room.
“With a strong and passionate committee in place, GBYC is well positioned to continue building on its momentum,” a club spokesperson said. “The new membership season begins 1 September, and the official start of the sailing season and Opening Day is Saturday 1 November.
“GBYC looks forward to another exciting year of sailing, social events, and community connection.”
