Last day of surf for summer season | Photos

People of all abilities are able to try out surfing and catch a few waves thanks to the volunteer carers and helpers.
It was the final event of the season for the volunteers and participants of the Disabled Surfing Association South West branch, held in small but nice waves at Bunker Bay on Saturday.
Brushed by a light offshore wind, the waves were ideal for the 33 surfers, 23 carers and 43 volunteers who attended the day.
There were a few new faces on the sand and all the surfers had a ball catching waves and experiencing the sport, with many enjoying the activity for the first time.
President Ant Purcell noted that numbers were down this summer compared to previous seasons, and said he would be approaching the City of Busselton for better disabled parking options, something which he said may have kept people away at times.
Mr Purcell thanked the amazing volunteers who help out at each event, “though sometimes it’s hard to tell who has the most fun, the surfers or the volunteers”.
Also thanked were generous sponsors, Doral, Busselton Water, Eagle Bay Brewery and Taz’s Bakery.
Association Patron Kevin Merrifield and wife Margaret were also in attendance for the morning session.
The group’s Annual General Meeting will be held at Eagle Bay Brewery on Sunday April 13.
