A re-elected Cook Labor Government could allocate $12 million for significant enhancements to Cowaramup Primary School, including a new early childhood education facility.
The proposed development seeks to replace outdated facilities with modern learning environments specifically designed for the school’s youngest students, allowing them to learn in a high-quality, contemporary setting.
The promised investment aims to create new, modern classrooms, toilets, and specialised areas tailored to early childhood education needs.
“WA Labor has a plan to deliver more high-quality education facilities for students in the South West region,” Education Minister Dr Tony Buti said at the announcement last week.
“The $12 million investment in Cowaramup Primary School will provide new state-of-the-art classrooms, replacing facilities nearing the end of their useful life.”
Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie said the proposed development would support the growing Cowaramup community.
“This announcement signifies crucial support for the students, staff, and families of Cowaramup Primary School,” she stated.
“These facilities will offer our community modern educational spaces designed for early education.”
The proposed development would feature spacious floor areas and wet zones for art, science, and other activities.
It is part of a broader commitment through a new $286 million School Infrastructure Fund, which Dr Buti noted “will ensure WA’s older schools can continue to provide students with a world-class education by facilitating major refurbishments across the State.”
The Labor Party said the commitment would build on other recent investments in local education, including the completed 36 million redevelopment of Margaret River Senior High School and more than $600,000 in improvements to Cowaramup Primary School in recent years.
WA Labor’s schools package also includes $1.9 million for planning for a new Vasse West Primary School to open in 2028.
The project would also support initiatives to introduce free full-time kindergarten as an option for parents, with phased implementation proposed in 2027.
This forms part of at $745 million school infrastructure investment pledged for the South West region under a re-elected Cook Labor.
