Teachers and staff took part in games of volleyball, basketball, netball, handball and AFL 9s.

The Cape Naturaliste College ‘Health & Physical Activity Week’ offered students the opportunity to celebrate the many benefits of health and physical education (HPE) earlier this month.

During the week, students participated in orienteering and faction sporting games to earn points for their faction during HPE lessons.

Points were also handed out for participation in lunchtime ‘Staff Vs Student’ sporting games, which saw staff members from a range of departments show off their skills in volleyball, basketball, netball, handball and AFL 9s.

The school also received a Busselton Water Community Partnership Grant, which allowed the college to work with local business Totally Sound to build their ‘Bike and Beats Project’, employed at recess each day.

“Essentially it is a stationary fitness bike, that when pedalled, will control the speed of the music being played,” explained CNC’s Larissa Treagus. “This is a fun way to bring exercise into the day in order to have music played.”

The week ended with a sports-themed dress up fundraiser for Disabled Surfing Association South West.

“This has also been an important part of the week over the last three years,” Larissa said. “DSA President Ant Pursell came and spoke with students during the week about the benefits of volunteering and supporting this organisation.”

With 525 points, the winning faction Kwedjinap collected the ‘2024 HPE Week’ trophy.

“Congratulations to our Year 11 faction captain nominees who assisting with running the events all week.”
