The Easter school holidays have kicked off with some heritage-themed fun for local kids as they headed to the Old Butter Factory over the weekend.
More than 100 children and their families took part in the Busselton Historical Society’s inaugural scavenger hunt, searching for clues in and around the iconic Butter Factory, schoolhouse, blacksmith’s shop, group house and vintage shop counter.
During the hunt, they learned about the history of the region’s forebears and collected some great prizes along the way.

“Joy is infectious, and this is what our young visitors brought to the grounds of the Old Butter Factory yesterday,” a society spokesperson said.
“It was fabulous to see the parents and grandparents get just as involved as the kids. Congratulations to our major prize winners – Riley, Andre, Saskia and Jack.”
Old fashioned games were also a hit with the youngsters, with quoits, tug-o-war, noughts and crosses and tin-can alley demonstrating how, during tough economic times, kids used whatever was laying around to create their own games and toys.
“Our sincere thanks go the Busselton Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service for having its fire engine on show, Discover Deadly, The Par 3 Golf, Forest Adventures and the local Bunnings, Woolworths and Coles stores for their generous donations of prizes and giveaways.

“Also, a round of applause goes to our hardworking Museum volunteers for helping to make the day a resounding success.”
