Jasmin Barker joins the City of Busselton's Leisure Services Trainee Program, where she will receive certifications in first aid, lifeguarding and swimming teaching, pool operations, and a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation.

A dedicated young local has joined the City of Busselton as its newest Aquatics Trainee, part of the City’s Leisure Services Trainee Program, which has been a youth initiative since 2021.

Jasmin Barker will take on the 12-month fixed-term program, which focuses on sport and recreation, providing valuable training and experience to young individuals.

“The City is proud to have had many quality trainees since the program’s inception, with most going on to further studies and careers in the industry,” Mayor Phill Cronin said.

“Our trainee program provides opportunities for school leavers and those seeking a career change in the aquatics industry.

“We are excited to see Jasmin thrive and contribute to our community.”

The program receives support from the State Government through wage subsidy incentives, which the City said had been instrumental in offering traineeships which combine practical experience with formal qualifications.

“Over the past few years, our trainees have primarily worked within the aquatics division, undergoing intensive training in the first two months.

“This training includes certifications in First Aid, Pool Lifeguard, Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety, Pool Operations and a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation.”

Once qualified, the trainees actively contribute to daily operations of the Leisure Services team, including pool operations, swim teaching and administration.

“As the City’s 2025 Aquatics Trainee, Jasmin brings some experience and enthusiasm to the role.

“With a background in surf lifesaving and Pilates instruction, Jasmin is one of the City’s more mature trainees.

“In her free time she enjoys running, swimming and spending time with horses, keeping her very busy.

“Please join the City in welcoming Jasmin Barker to the Aquatics team.”
