Busselton Jetty Swim is asking for volunteers to help bring its 30th anniversary event to life.

The iconic event is held over two days on February 8 and 9, and attracts over 5,000 participants from around the world to swim various distances in the turquoise waters of Geographe Bay, including the signature 3.6km swim around Busselton’s beloved Jetty.

Volunteer Coordinators Sue Barrett and Brigitte Borelli said the spirit of the Busselton community is at the heart of the event.

“Busselton Jetty Swim is truly everybody’s swim,” Sue said.

“It’s our community – our volunteers- that make it happen.

Volunteers can help with tasks like swimmer check ins, and handing out refreshments and towels.

“Without them there simply wouldn’t be a Jetty Swim.”

The event is organised by a volunteer committee throughout the year and relies on extra volunteers to help over event weekend with tasks such as swimmer check-ins and the distribution of towels and refreshments to finishers.

“Many of volunteers return year after year because they love excitement of the event and it’s a way to be a part of the Jetty Swim, without getting wet,” Brigitte said.

Training is provided, and volunteers receive goodies like tshirts and refreshments on the day.

Roles are available for both days of the event, with training provided before each shift, and volunteers also receive a free t-shirt, refreshments, and a chance to win great prizes donated by sponsors.

The event has grown from 82 participants in 1996 to an event which now attracts over 5,000 swimmers from around the globe.
