A special event this weekend will aiming to provide connection and community to new Australians in the Busselton area.

Busselton International Friendship Incorporated (BIFI) will host the event alongside supporters Rio Tinto at The People Place in Busselton.

The group was formed last year, with the intention of providing a foundation for a range of settlement services including resources, facilities, and program support, while improving and enriching the lives of new Australians and celebrating their cultures and customs.

“According to the 2021 Census, 24 percent of Busselton residents were born overseas and 45 percent have at least one parent born in another country,” said chairperson Ray Gannaway.

“These statistics highlight the significant portion of our population with foreign heritage.

“Many of these residents arrive without family or friends.”

This weekend’s Hello Day event will include a welcome lunch for all new residents, internationals and Australians alike.

It will kick off with a meet and greet at 12pm on Saturday May 31, following with lunch at 12.30pm and concluding at 3pm.

“These meet and greet days will be the opportunity for people to be provided with useful information about all the things our region has to offer,” Mr Gannaway said.

Limited places are available and registration is required.
