Funding helps local library update toys
A recent Lotterywest grant has allowed the Margaret River Toy Library to update their range of toys and play equipment ready for new members to make use of the community service.
“We’re keen to attract some new members to enjoy the fun,” Kate Fraser explained.
“We have a great range of toys for children aged 0-6 years to borrow.”
Kate said the benefits of the group included being part of an inclusive and welcoming community, and contributing to sustainable play with the sharing and reuse of toys.
The library offers social opening times within the Margaret River playgroup playground, and the low cost membership means new toys without the cost of buying more each month.
Member for Warren-Blackwood, Jane Kelsbie presented the $7,108 grant earlier this month, which brings the total Lotterywest support for the library to $48,108 across seven grants.
“Margaret River Toy Library is more than just a place to borrow toys. It’s a vital community resource that supports early childhood development, reduces disadvantage, and strengthens community bonds,” she said.
“The addition of these educational toys will further support our local families by providing opportunities for high-quality play at home, supporting the healthy development of children.”
This funding will be used to expand and refresh the toy collection, with an emphasis on educational toys and equipment.
The library also stocks a range of costumes and creative play items.
Over the last five years, Margaret River Toy Library has helped more than 250 families, facilitating nearly 5,500 toy loans.
